NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Monday, not dropping a set against Millsaps College.

The Wolf Pack's record this season now stands at 8-3 going into Wednesday's matchup with Jones College. The match is set for noon at the City Park Tennis Center.

Reilly Briggs and Avery Frierson opened the match with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, improving to 3-1 as a pair this season. The No. 1 duo of Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez then captured the doubles point for the Pack, winning 6-4. Loyola got one more doubles win, 7-6 from Elly Carpenter and Isabella Leaño on Court 2, as they won a tiebreak 7-1.

Loyola has been dominant in women's doubles on the winning streak, and Monday was no different. With three more doubles wins coming against Millsaps, Wolf Pack doubles teams are a combined 12-0 in the last five matches.

Ariana Salgueiro-Estela got the first singles win for the Pack quickly on Court 3, only dropping one game. Vasquez followed on Court 2, winning each set 6-1, and Avery Frierson clinched the match for the Pack, winning 6-3, 6-1 on Court 4.

Loyola added a few more victories after clinching the match, with Elly Carpenter winning 6-1, 6-0 on Court 5, Micaela Ponce winning her first match at No. 1 singles, and Ana Cecilia Castillo getting her first match win of the year, 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6.

Wolf Pack head coach Matt Llewellyn

"I'm really happy with our women's team's overall performance. We were able to get some girls in the match that didn't get as much playing time as we wanted earlier in the spring. They stepped in and performed really well, and I'm really proud of their patience, belief, and good overall tennis today despite not getting a ton of match play. It's not easy to do, so I'm really proud of how they stepped up, and we'll need them as the season goes forward.

Micaela Ponce had her first opportunity to play No. 1 singles for our team. She has been playing really well over the last few weeks, and we know that we can put her at a number of different positions and she's going to perform well for us. It really helps out with our flexibility, and her game is trending in the right direction at the right time of the year.

Our women have so much more room to grow, and so much more fuel in the tank, and that's an exciting position to be in at this point in the season. We really feel like we're just getting started in a lot of ways. I'm really proud of the women's team overall."
