NEW ORLEANS – The No. 10 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team hosted the University of Mobile for the final home match of the 2026 season at the City Park Tennis Center. After a close win on Wednesday, the Pack played another close one on Thursday, edging out the Rams 4-3.
It's the sixth straight win for Loyola (7-4, 4-0 SSAC), who won four singles matches to take the match after losing two out of three in doubles.
Adele Fereres and Avery Frierson, still the No. 10-ranked doubles team in the NAIA, got the match started with a 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot. Mobile, however, picked up wins at courts 1 and 3 to claim the doubles point.
Fereres continued her stellar play in singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 on court 3 to get Loyola's first point on the scoreboard. Fereres is now 8-0 in singles this season and 7-3 in doubles. Avrora Volkova and Amodu each took care of their singles matches in straight sets to put the Pack ahead 3-2, but Mobile was able to tie the match at 3-3 with a tiebreak win in the second set of the court 1 match.
The overall result came down to court 4 singles, as Shanthamoorthi was up a set but dropped the second to send it to a deciding third. The freshman prevailed again, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, to win her seventh consecutive match and clinch the 4-3 win for the Pack.
Loyola will face No. 5-ranked William Carey next Wednesday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. With both teams being undefeated in conference play, the winner of that match will win the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season title.
"Back to back quality wins this week shows how tough our women are. We compete and find a way no matter what. I'm proud of who we're becoming this season. It's a total team effort. Our environment is awesome and we're having fun competing at a high level."
"Today was our senior day. Their final home match. Many of them started this program with me. Over their careers they have fought through almost every obstacle imaginable on our way to building the best teams in Loyola history. They came here believing we could achieve goals that felt impossible. They trusted in me in good times and bad. I love and respect them so much for that. Their legacy is creating a culture and team experience that will last for years. Their futures are bright and they will be incredibly successful in whatever path they choose."
