HAMMOND, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team saw its six-match win streak come to an end on Monday as the Wolf Pack fell 5-1 against NCAA Division-I program Southeastern Louisiana.
With the loss, Loyola's overall record moves to 7-5, with a 4-0 mark in conference play, while Southeastern improves to 11-8.
Southeastern claimed the doubles point Monday with wins on courts 2 and 3, but both of those were decided by two games. Micaela Ponce and Presha Shanthamoorthi were tied up 5-5 in their court 1 doubles match, but it remained unfinished.
In singles, Avery Frierson got things started with a quick 6-3, 6-0 win to tie the scoreboard at 1-1, but it would be Loyola's only singles victory as Southeastern picked up straight-sets wins on courts 4, 5, and 6 to clinch the match.
Adele Fereres forced a third set in her match on court 3 after winning the second, but she fell 6-1 in the third set, and it finished about the same time as court 4, so it counted for her first loss of the season. Ponce won the first set in her singles match on court 1 and was up 3-1 in the third when the match was stopped.
Loyola will face No. 5-ranked William Carey on Wednesday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale. With both teams being undefeated in conference play, the winner of that match will win the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season title.
