Tennis teams close out LSUA Invitational Saturday

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams each played on Saturday in the final day of the LSU Alexandria Invitational. 

 

Loyola's women's team won 4-1 over Texas A&M Texarkana to improve to 6-3 on the season. The men's team fell to 2-5 after being swept by Our Lady of the Lake. 

 

Similar to yesterday's women's matches, Loyola secured the first point without dropping any of the doubles matches. 

 

Micaela Ponce and Ariana Salgueiro-Estela got their team-leading seventh doubles victory, winning 6-2 on Court 1. Elly Carpenter and Lucy Carpenter were back playing doubles for the third time this season, and the sibling duo moved to a 3-0 record with a 6-2 win on Court 2. Selma Fereres and Mathilde Camus played in their first dual match of the season on Court 3, but their match did not finish as the teams played to clinch. 

 

In singles, Lucy Carpenter and Micaela Ponce each picked up their fifth individual victories of the season playing at the No. 1 and 2 positions, while Leonie Schmidt also won in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, her second win this year. Carpenter was an undefeated 6-0 between singles and doubles over the weekend, while Ponce was 5-0. 

 

The Wolf Pack women's team begins a three-match home slate on Tuesday, March 14 at noon with a men's and women's doubleheader against William Carey. Before starting the same three-match homestand, Loyola's men's team will play at Dillard on Sunday, March 5, at noon.
