Tennis teams drop matches to Nicholls

The highlight of the day was Lucy Carpenter's three-set victory at No. 1 singles

THIBODAUX, La. – After opening the season against Nicholls State, the Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams had a rematch against the Colonels on the road on Wednesday. 

The Colonels were able to complete the season sweep. The Loyola men fell to a 3-6 overall record this season after a 7-0 result, while the women's team is now 5-6 after also dropping the match 6-1.

The highlight of the day was another strong performance from sophomore Lucy Carpenter, who took down Nicholls' top player Simona Maksimovic in three sets: 7-5, 6-4, 10-6. It was the second meeting of the season between Maksimovic and Carpenter, who evened the score after dropping their matchup earlier this season.

Fatima Vasquez joined Carpenter for what was sure to be a win at No. 1 doubles, but since the doubles matches were played to clinch on Wednesday and Nicholls had already claimed the doubles point, their match remained unfinished at 5-2. 

The Wolf Pack will have a week to prepare for their next match, when the men's and women's teams will compete in a road contest against Jones College. The match is scheduled to start at noon in Ellisville, Miss.
