Next up, The Wolf Pack will compete against Nicholls State on March 16

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams faced off against William Carey in a conference matchup on the road Saturday, with the home team taking the win in both matches.
Â
The Crusaders were ranked No. 4 in the NAIA national rankings while their women's team was ranked 13th.Â
Â
"It was a disappointing day for us," said head coach Matthew Llewellyn. "We've been battling health and injury issues. We fought pretty well considering, but ultimately did not have enough today."
Â
The No. 13 Wolf Pack women's team battled injury but was able to muster a point courtesy of Lucy Carpenter. The sophomore won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5 over Valeriya Shurbina at No. 1 singles. Carpenter and Vasquez also dominated at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-0, but Loyola was unable to claim the doubles point as Carey won the match 6-1.Â
Â
Loyola's only win in the men's match came at No. 2 doubles, with Francisco Arce Vieyra and Herman Aure securing a 6-1 victory. Carey won every other match, however, with a 7-0 team result.Â
Â
"WCU teams play with a lot of confidence which is something we need to take from this experience," said Llewellyn. "For us to get to that level we need to work harder each day and take our confidence in ourselves and each other into matches against the best teams. We're young and building so I'm proud of where we are. We still have a lot of work ahead, but I believe in this group."
Â
The Wolf Pack tennis teams will attempt to bounce back on Wednesday as they face Nicholls State on the road. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Thibodaux, La.Â
