NEW ORLEANS – The Pack took on Drexel University and Kansas in Overwatch 2 on Tuesday and Thursday. On Thursday, the Smash Bros. team took down Lindenwood in a 2-0 sweep.

The Wolf Pack will compete in the Smash Bros. Conference Play-in on Thursday at 6 p.m. The match will be livestreamed on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/loynoesports.

In the first set of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nathan Long, as Rosalina & Luma, took on Lindenwood's Ryu. In a close fight, Long was able to defeat Lindenwood's Ryu with one stock remaining. Next up to challenge Long was Lindenwood's Bowser. With only one stock left after the previous fight, Long's Rosalina & Luma fell to Bowser, 1-0. Ameer Joseph, as Bayonetta, was the next member of the Pack to face Bowser. Joseph was able to get Lindenwood's Bowser to 154% before falling, 3-0. Anthony Nodolski was the third member of the Pack to challenge Bowser. This time, Nodolski's Olimar would take down Lindenwood's Bowser in a close fight, 3-2. Lindenwood's Luigi was the next opponent to enter the ring against the Pack. With one stock left, Nodolski was able to take one away from Luigi before falling, 1-1. In a ditto match, Owen Salinas, as Luigi, took on Lindenwood's Luigi. Salinas spiked Lindenwood's Luigi to take down his opponent without losing a stock, winning 2-0. Next, Salinas faced Lindenwood's Shulk. With only 14% damage done to his last stock, Salinas defeated Shulk, giving the Wolf Pack a one set lead over Lindenwood.

For the second set, Ameer Joseph's Bayonetta got things going for the Pack, facing Lindenwood's Ryu. Joseph managed to take a stock from Ryu before falling, 3-1. Nathan Long came back to face Ryu after his first set victory. Like the first set, Long defeated Ryu once again, winning 2-1. Lindenwood's Bowser was back to make things difficult for the Pack, but Long was ready. This time, Long took two of Bowser's stock before losing both of his own, falling 2-2. Taking down Bowser, Nodolski's Olimar finished what Long started, winning 1-1. In a close fight, Nodolski was nearly able to defeat Lindenwood's Luigi, but fell 2-2. Salinas came back to take down the opposing Luigi, winning 1-0. Lindenwood's last effort to force a third set was not enough as Salinas's Luigi took down Shulk, sealing the victory for the Wolf Pack.

In Overwatch 2, the Pack faced Drexel University for the third match of the season. For the first map, the teams played on Nepal, a Control map. Drexel's Orisa made things difficult for Loyola. Because of this, Drexel was able to take the first two sections of the map, winning the first set. In the second set, the teams played on the Hybrid map, King's Row. Starting on defense, the Pack were not able to stop Drexel. Switching sides, Loyola needed to capture to the objective to move the payload. With 1:38 remaining, the Wolf Pack captured the objective, thanks to a clutch Sound Barrier from Zach Sutherland as Lucio. With seconds remaining, Loyola managed to get the payload just over three meters from the checkpoint. The Pack got the clock into overtime, but it was not enough time for the pack to keep the game alive, falling in the second set, 3-1. The Pack's last chance to keep the game going arrived at Dorado, the Escort map, in the third set. For this map, Drexel started on attack and remained difficult to stop, reaching the end of the map with 2:24 remaining. Then, Loyola switched to the Attacker's side. With less than a meter until the first checkpoint, the Wolf Pack were unable to get there as the clocked ticked down, falling 0-3 for the match. In the next match, Loyola faced Kansas on Thursday, but was unable to capture victory, losing 0-3.

Loyola will look to get its first win of the season when facing Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The match will be livestreamed on the Wolf Pack's Twitch channel.
