Box Score The Loyola volleyball team lost a four-set match on the road Saturday, splitting its two conference contest this weekend at Talladega and Blue Mountain
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team traveled to Blue Mountain College Saturday, falling in four sets (16-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13) to the Toppers. It was the second Southern States Athletic Conference match for both teams, as Loyola defeated Talladega Friday night while BMC beat William Carey.
Loyola is now 6-6 overall this season and 1-1 in SSAC play, and it'll hit the road again next weekend, traveling to SSAC foes Brewton-Parker and Middle Georgia State Friday and Saturday.
Loyola started the match by winning the first set 25-16, using 16 kills in the opening game to take a quick lead. Jordan Bernard started the game with back-to-back kills, then after an attack by Alicia Simmons, Brittany Cooper added consecutive kills. An ace by Simone Moreau made it 6-0 quickly. Then Simone Tyson got going on the attack to keep Loyola ahead comfortably, and she finished the set with three more kills down the stretch.
Blue Mountain, however, quickly answered with a 25-17 second-set win to tie the match. Loyola, again, started a set fast, taking a 5-0 lead in the third game after getting an ace from Moreau and kills from Cooper and Simmons. the Toppers tied the game, 8-8, but Bernard and Cooper pushed the Wolf Pack back ahead 15-11. BMC rallied again to tie the game, 19-19, before pushing ahead for good to take a 2-1 match lead.
With the fourth set tied 5-5, Blue Mountain extended its lead to 12-6 before holding on for the match-win.
Pack Facts
Simone Tyson led the Wolf Pack with 15 kills in the match, her fifth time this season in double figures.
Brittany Cooper recorded her team-high fifth double-double this season with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Kailyn O'Neal added a double-double, too, collecting 19 assists and 15 digs against Blue Mountain College. It was her third double-double of the season as well.
Gracie Bailey's team-high 22 assists was the fourth consecutive match with at least 20 assists for the junior.
After earning a new career-high Friday night, Simone Moreau put together a 22-dig performance Saturday. It marked the third time this season with at least 20 digs for the freshman libero.
Freshman Preslie Boswell had seven kills in the contest, the second-most in a match this season. Her season-high of 13 was set in the second contest of the season.
