Box Score The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team is set to play two SSAC matches in New Orleans this weekend
MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team took a break from Southern States Athletic Conference play Tuesday night, traveling to Mobile, Alabama, to take on Spring Hill College. In the first of three matches this week, the Wolf Pack suffered a three-set loss to the Badgers, moving their overall record to 16-8.
It was a tough night for Loyola, falling behind quickly in all three sets. They hung around in the first set, using kills by Jordan Bernard and Emily Sheperis early then attacks by Simone Tyson and Preslie Boswell later in the set. After the second set got away from the Wolf Pack, Loyola didn't give up in the third. Trailing 20-9, Loyola won nine of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to 23-18. Spring Hill, however, was able to hold on to the win.
Despite Tuesday's non-conference loss, the Wolf Pack is set for a couple of huge matches this weekend in New Orleans, taking on Talladega on Friday and Blue Mountain College on Saturday. Loyola is currently tied with Blue Mountain atop the SSAC standings with 10-1 records, and the two teams will meet for the final time in the regular season at 2 p.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse. Loyola's Friday night match with Talladega is set for 6 p.m. at the University of New Orleans' Human Performance Center.
The Pack has just four matches left in the regular season, three of those being SSAC matches. Both Loyola and BMC hold a two-match lead over third-place William Carey and three games over Mobile. The SSAC Championship is scheduled to begin Thursday, Nov. 11, in Montgomery, Alabama.
"Tonight was a tough match. Spring Hill is a strong, well-coached program that we love competing with and haven't had the opportunity since the 2019 season. It took us a while to find our groove, but we ended the match playing really good volleyball. We're looking forward to getting into our last weekend of conference play and tonight's game really helped us key in on some things to focus on this week."
