Box Score Although WCU is a SSAC opponent, the loss doesn't count against the Wolf Pack in the conference standings
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After a week hiatus, the Loyola Wolf Pack made the short trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for a match with the William Carey Lady Crusaders Saturday. In a non-conference tilt, WCU pulled out the straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-8) win over the Wolf Pack.
The two played a close opening game early, but William Carey started to pull away after the 6-6 tie. The Lady Crusaders scored the next 11 of 12 points to create a cushion, then held on for the 25-17 win. Loyola didn't give up, though. Trailing 19-10, it cut the lead to five to make it a game.
The second set featured eight ties before William Carey pushed ahead to win 25-20. The Wolf Pack held the lead a handful of ties in the set, but when the Lady Crusaders took a 19-18 lead, they never relinquished it.
William Carey finished off the match with a 25-8 third-set win.
Loyola remains 5-4 in the Southern States Athletics Conference despite the loss, because the match did not count toward the standings.
Loyola will hit the road for Florida next, as it'll play two games in the Sunshine State Friday and Saturday. First, the Wolf Pack will play a non-conference game with Southeastern University Friday at 5:30 p.m. CST, then they'll take on Florida College Saturday at noon.
Loyola and Florida College have already played once this season, and the Wolf Pack claimed the match in four sets to start SSAC play last month.
