Box Score Six players put up double figures for Loyola in the all-around team win
NEW ORLEANS – Despite trailing at halftime in The Den, the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team outscored Martin Methodist 59-31 in the second half, earning a 95-70 victory on Saturday.
The RedHawks (7-9, 4-6 SSAC) struck first with a shot inside, but the score remained relatively close through the opening minutes as the teams traded baskets. The Wolf Pack (11-6, 6-4 SSAC) held a five-point advantage midway through the first half, with Tre'Von Jasmine finding Myles Burns for his first triple of the game to grow the home lead to 21-16. Five points remained the largest lead for either side in the opening period, with the teams combining for 16 lead changes and two ties.
Martin Methodist took a 39-36 lead into halftime, extending it to eight points at 46-38 with three minutes gone in the second half, but the Wolf Pack turned the momentum in their favor after Eric Brown and Ethan Turner drew three-shot fouls on back-to-back plays. Over the next 13 minutes of game time, Loyola outscored the RedHawks 49-11, taking a 28-point lead at 87-59 with just under four minutes remaining.
The Wolf Pack lead never dipped under 20 points for the closing minutes, as they defended The Den with a 95-70 victory.
Loyola takes on defending SSAC champions William Carey on Monday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m., as the homestand continues in The Den.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Stacy Hollowell
"Tonight we put together our most complete performance of the season and we got contributions from every player. It took us a little while to figure things out however, Jordan Olison and Dwayne Ward really hurt us in the first half. Our team put together a great defensive effort in the second half and were able to get stops and rebounds. On the offensive side we didn't have very many empty possessions, we shot the ball well from the three point and free throw line in the second half. I'm proud of the effort in tonight's win, but especially proud of the maturity that we showed, and hopefully this is something we can continue to build upon."
