Box Score Wolf Pack return to action tomorrow on the road against Brenau University at 11:00 a.m.
Looking to avenge a 3-0 defeat at home earlier in the year, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team headed the Tine Davis Gymnasium on Friday night to square off against Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) opponent Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Friday's result proved to be a near mirror image of September's match, with the Wolf Pack (12-16, 6-7 SSAC) once again falling victim to the 0-3 sweep (25-18,25-16,25-17) at the hands of the Eagles (14-12, 10-4 SSAC) on Friday evening.
Two back-to-back kills from Tylar Beckham (SO/New Orleans, La.) propelled Loyola to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. The home team responded with a 6-2 run to knot the set at 7-7, before a kill by Malea Howie (FR/Greenwood, Ind.) off an assist from Maddie Huekels (SO/Dyer, Ind.) gave the Wolf Pack the lead back at 8-7. The Eagles managed to regain the advantage and extend the cushion to 18-13, but Loyola answered right back with consecutive kills by Howie and Beckham to cut the deficit to three - 18-15. Faulkner ended the set on a 7-3 spurt to claim the opening frame 25-18.
The Eagles put the first point on the board in the second set and managed to hold the lead for the entire way through en route to the 25-16 victory to go up 2-0.
With the score knotted at 2-2 in the third, Faulkner put together a 10-3 run to grab the 12-5 advantage in set three. Loyola would score three-straight points in the waning moments of the third set, but it would not be enough as Faulkner claimed set three 25-17 to complete the sweep.
The Wolf Pack recorded a 0.040 (38-33-124) hitting percentage on Friday to go along with 33 assists, 45 digs and three total blocks.
Loyola featured two players with double-figure kills, led by Beckham's match-high 11. Allison Hartmann (SO/Slidell, La.) chipped in 10 kills and three block assists on Friday, while Sunni Blanchard (FR/Pierre Part, La.) handed out a team-high 19 assists and Huekels collected 10 helpers to go along with five kills. Elizabeth Scioneaux (JR/Reserve, La.) led the team with 10 digs and Katie Philippi (SR/Metairie, La.) scooped up nine digs off the bench in the loss.
Daijah Washington paced the Eagles with nine kills and Katie Klassen gave out a team-high 11 helpers on Friday.
The Wolf Pack continue their road trip tomorrow, Oct. 22, when they travel to take on Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia at 11:00 a.m.
