Loyola baseball defeated College of St. Joseph in both games of a doubleheader today, taking down the Saints 5-3 in the first game and 31-4 in the second game.

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball defeated College of St. Joseph in both games of a doubleheader today, taking down the Saints 5-3 in the first game and 31-4 in the second game.
Four Wolf Pack (9-4) pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter in Loyola's 5-3 first game win. Stewart Campbell (2-1) earned the win for the Pack, surrendering one hit, two walks and two runs (one earned) in four innings of work. Nick Moore, Kevin Lindsey and Connor Thurman all pitched one inning in relief, with Thurman closing the game out for his second save of the season.
With the scored tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning and Wolf Pack runners on second and third base, Luis Angiuzola crushed a double to deep right field, scoring John Nicholson and Carmelo LoSauro to give Loyola a 3-1 lead.
Connor Martin homered to right field in the top of the fourth inning to bring the Saints (0-4) within one run of the Wolf Pack, but Loyola scored another run in the bottom of the inning off of a Nicholson sacrifice fly. St. Joseph managed to get another run in the top of fifth inning but the Pack once again responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Lance Licciardi scored Britt Pellegrin with a ground out to second base.
Angiuzola hit two doubles for the Pack and drove in two runs. Freshman Rawlings Elam was 2-2 and drew two walks in the leadoff spot while Alexander Lorenzo finished with two hits as well.
Martin's home run in the fourth inning was the only hit of the game for the Saints. Russ Krebs took the loss for St. Joseph, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in three innings pitched.
In the second game, Loyola trailed St. Joseph 3-2 at the end of two innings, but the Wolf Pack proceeded to score 29 runs over the next four innings to earn the seven inning win. The Loyola offense exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning and 11 runs in the sixth.
Thirteen Wolf Pack batters totaled at least one hit and 17 different Loyola players scored a run. Jordan Wilson, Spencer Rosenbohm, Alexander Lorenzo, John Nicholson, Luis Angiuzola and John Hernandez all had multi-hit games with Wilson and Rosenbohm collecting three hits each. Wilson scored five runs while Rosenbohm, Nicholson, Hernandez and Andrew Fournet had three RBI each.
Freshman Jason Roussel pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first collegiate win. Paul Roppolo and Dylan Gregoire each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Pack.
Billy Edenfield gave up five earned runs in three innings pitched, picking up the loss for the Saints. Jordan Matos was 1-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Loyola will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a three-game series versus SSAC opponent William Carey on Friday, February 20, and Saturday, February 21.
