YPSILANTI, Mich. – The NAIA Women's Golf National Championship got started on Tuesday for the eighth-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack, but multiple weather delays caused a stoppage of play midway through their first round. The Pack came back on Wednesday to finish their round, and they sit tied for 24th place with a team score of 326 (+38).
The competition is being held at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Loyola was a part of the first wave of teams to hit the course on Tuesday, having to battle the tough conditions and stop-and-start play before the tournament was officially suspended for the day. Tuesday's afternoon wave of teams did not start their tournament until Wednesday, which meant those teams played their first 18 holes of the tournament in much more favorable conditions Wednesday afternoon.
The championship was also shortened to a 54-hole tournament, which last happened in 2022 when the Wolf Pack had a program-best fifth-place finish.
Aaliyah Achary leads Loyola with a 46th placement on the individual leaderboard after carding a 78 (+6). Achary started her round on Tuesday with some trouble, sitting at 3-over through three holes, but she steadied her round after that with seven straight pars to stay at 3-over through 10 holes. Three more bogeys and five more pars finished her first round on Wednesday.
Sarah Meral was next for the Wolf Pack with a first-round 81 (+9) to sit tied for 82nd, then Johanna Haver (+11), Evie Sisk (+12), and Catherine Singletary (+13) are next in 110th, ,120th and 124th place, respectively, in a 156-golfer field.
