No. 8 Loyola in third after Day 1 of SSAC Championship

GREENVILLE, ALA. – The No. 8-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack women's golf team played the first 18 holes of the SSAC Championship on Monday, and they sit in third place with two rounds to play this week at RTJ Cambrian Ridge. 

Loyola had a team total of 321 (+33) for its first round, and its seven strokes behind No. 7 William Carey (+26). No. 2 Dalton State leads the tournament with a 297 (+9) score. 
 

The field is set for the second round on Tuesday. 
 

Sarah Meral and Aaliyah Achary lead the Wolf Pack in fifth and sixth place, respectively, on the individual leaderboard. Meral started the championship with a first-round 75 (+3), and Achary was two strokes behind her teammate with a first-round 77 (+5). 

Meral got an early birdie on the par-4, second, but moved to even-par on the third hole, where she stayed until the eighth hole. She was 4-over after 12 holes before a couple of birdies down the stretch helped her get to 3-over. Achary also had an early birdie, starting her round with one on the par-5, first. She would eventually be 2-over after her front nine holes and stayed there until a birdie on the 14th. The sophomore had an up-and-down finish to her round to end her 5-over day. 
 

Catherine Singletary is just outside the Top 10 in 17th after her first-round 84 (+12) score, Johanna Haver is tied for 18th one stroke behind (+13), and Evie Sisk shot an 87 (+15) and is tied for 23rd.
