MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 10 Loyola University New Orleans women's tennis team swept the University of Mobile 4-0 in the SSAC Championship semifinals Friday to punch its ticket to the SSAC Championship match.
The Wolf Pack improved to 8-6 on the season and will be playing in the team's second straight conference final and third in the last four seasons. On Friday, Loyola head coach Matt Llewellyn also reached 100 career victories across his seven seasons leading the Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams.
Loyola set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 2. The No. 10-ranked graduate student tandem of Adele Fereres and Avery Frierson dominated 6-0 on court two to get things rolling, and Micaela Ponce and Presha Shanthamoorthi followed with a 6-4 win over Mobile's No. 23-ranked pair on court 1 to clinch the match's first point.
In singles, the Pack wasted no time putting the match away. Avrora Volkova delivered the first point with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory on court 6. Fereres extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court 3, and Shanthamoorthi sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court four.
With the match clinched, three contests went unfinished, though Sofia Amodu was one game away from clinching her match on court 5, while Frierson also won the first set in her match on court 2.
Loyola will now face top-seeded William Carey in Saturday's SSAC Championship at 10 a.m. The matchup will be a rematch of the 2025 battle for the conference title, where Loyola won its first championship.
