MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team dropped a close result against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Friday at the SSAC Roundup.
Loyola (4-3, 1-1 SSAC) won the doubles point but ABAC won four singles matches. The score was tied 3-3 before the Stallions mustered a comeback win on court 3 to take the match.
Samuel Marin and Luca Abati got things started with a 6-4 win on court 2 after ABAC won on doubles court 3. Then the court 1 match with Sam Izrael and Alfredo Gallegos was tied at 6-6, but the Wolf Pack duo dominated the tiebreak 7-1 to clinch the doubles point.
Jett Nguyen put the Pack up 2-0 in the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court 6, his fifth of the season. The Stallions then rattled off wins on courts 5, 2, and 1 before Loyola was able to tie the scoreboard with a 6-3, 7-5 from Samuel Marin on court 4.
The match came down to Gallegos against ABAC's Luka Blache on court 3. Gallegos won the first set 6-3, but Blache came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-4.
Loyola will try to bounce back on Saturday in a 10 a.m. matchup with Tennessee Southern. At No. 25, the Firehawks are one spot ahead of the Wolf Pack in the NAIA team rankings.
