NEW ORLEANS — Record-setting Ollie Brumfield IV of Loyola University New Orleans is the Southern States Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in men's outdoor track.

The SSAC announced Tuesday that Brumfield won for March 9-15. This is the first SSAC weekly award of his Wolf Pack career.

Brumfield — a sophomore from Covington, La., and a graduate of Northlake Christian High School — set a Loyola new-era record in the 400-meter dash Saturday at Southeastern Louisiana's Andy Thiel Season Opener. Brumfield's time was 47.93 seconds, and he placed second out of 11 runners. The previous record was 48.60.

That time also ranks No. 1 in the NAIA for the 400-meter race, and he's .36 of a second away from hitting the NAIA B standard mark for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Next for Loyola's men and women will be the Belhaven Invitational at Jackson, Miss. That meet will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Belhaven University.
