NEW ORLEANS — Record-setting Ollie Brumfield IV of Loyola University New Orleans is the Southern States Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in men's outdoor track.
  Â
The SSAC announced Tuesday that Brumfield won for March 9-15. This is the first SSAC weekly award of his Wolf Pack career.
  Â
Brumfield — a sophomore from Covington, La., and a graduate of Northlake Christian High School — set a Loyola new-era record in the 400-meter dash Saturday at Southeastern Louisiana's Andy Thiel Season Opener. Brumfield's time was 47.93 seconds, and he placed second out of 11 runners. The previous record was 48.60.
Â
That time also ranks No. 1 in the NAIA for the 400-meter race, and he's .36 of a second away from hitting the NAIA B standard mark for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.Â
  Â
Next for Loyola's men and women will be the Belhaven Invitational at Jackson, Miss. That meet will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Belhaven University.Â
