NEW ORLEANS – After nearly a month of no matches, the Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team returned to action on Sunday afternoon with a match against NCAA Division-I opponent College of Charleston at the City Park Tennis Center.
College of Charleston is in town for other NCAA matches against New Orleans and Nicholls. The Cougars (3-3) won the doubles point and all six singles courts to take the match 7-0.
While the Cougars swept singles and doubles, a lot of the matches were close. The first set went to the Wolf Pack on courts 2 and 3. At No. 2 singles, Alfredo Gallegos won the first set 7-5 before eventually falling in a super tiebreak. Samuel Marin won the first set 6-2 in his match on court 3 before dropping the next two. Sam Izrael and Luca Abati, on singles courts 1 and 6, both lost tight matches 6-4, 6-4. This was also the Wolf Pack debut for Abati.
Loyola (0-2) will return to the City Park Tennis Center for two matches against NAIA competition later this week. First up is Lewis-Clark State on Thursday at 12 p.m. Then, a ranked matchup against No. 11 Our Lady of the Lake on Friday at 3 p.m.
