NEW ORLEANS – The No. 25 Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team began a week of two home matches with a 7-0 sweep against Lewis-Clark State College on Thursday at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Wolf Pack (1-2) won two doubles matches and all six singles to earn the team's first match win of the 2026 season.
The match started with a quick 6-1 win for Loyola's No. 1 duo of Sam Izrael and Alfredo Gallegos, as they improved to 2-1 this season on the first court. Lewis-Clark got one back on court 3, but Samuel Marin and Luca Abati outlasted their opponents in a tiebreak 7-5 to win their match on court 2 and clinch the doubles point.
Gallegos and Marin each made quick work of their matches on courts 3 and 4, but the other matches were relatively close, with two featuring tiebreaks and the other two going to third sets. Hippolyte de Preville trailed 5-1 in his first-set tiebreak before rallying back to win it 8-6, eventually taking the match 7-6, 6-1.
With the match win clinched, Loyola toughed out wins on courts 6, 1, and 5 to complete the sweep. Jett Nguyen quickly went down a set but bounced back to win the next two 6-1, 6-4. A two-set marathon on court 1 ended 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in favor of Sam Izrael after he fought his way back from down 5-4 in the second. Abati wrapped up the final win for the Pack, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 on court 5.
Both de Preville and Nguyen earned their second singles wins of the season on Thursday.
Loyola will return to City Park tomorrow for a 3 p.m. matchup with No. 11 Our Lady of the Lake.
