No. 19 Women’s golf begins season in Florida Monday

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's golf team started its fall schedule with 36 holes at Keiser University's Seahawk Shootout on Monday, and the 19th-ranked Wolf Pack is currently in eighth place out of 17 teams. Loyola had a solid first round (+15), finishing the morning round just three strokes from first place on the team leaderboard. In the second round, however, Loyola was 41-over to move down to its current position.  
 

The field of the tournament includes six teams in the Top 10 of the NAIA rankings, and 10 teams in the Top 25 or receiving votes. 
 

Sarah Meral leads the Wolf Pack in eighth place with a two-round total of 152 (+8). She started her day by recording birdies on two of her first five holes, but a little trouble during her back nine gave her a 75 (+3) score. The senior had two birdies on her card in the afternoon to help her shoot a second-round 77 (+5) and stay within five strokes of the leader. 
 

Catherine Singletary recorded the low-round of the day for Loyola with a 2-under, 70 to start the tournament. She tallied five birdies and 10 pars during that round, but followed that up with an 84 (+12) in the afternoon to sit in 15th place and two strokes outside the Top 10 with a 154 (+10) Day 1 total. Her first-round 70 (-2) matches her career low during tournament play at Loyola, which is tied for the fifth-lowest round score in program history. 
 

Johanna Haver made her collegiate debut by carding rounds of 77 and 83 (+16) to sit in 39th place out of 101 golfers. Aaliyah Achary and Evie Sisk are in 62nd and 81st place, respectively. Achary shot rounds of 81 and 85, and Sisk had an 85 and an 89. 
 

The third and final round will start at 7:30 a.m. CDT on Tuesday.
