MONTGOMERY, Ala. – With the first tournament for the Loyola Wolf Pack women's golf team less than five weeks away, the Southern States Athletic Conference released its preseason poll on Friday with Loyola checking in at No. 3.
William Carey earned the top spot on the rankings with 62 total votes and six first-place votes, followed by Dalton State with 57 total votes and two first-place nods. After Loyola's 38 votes, Blue Mountain Christian (36), Tennessee Southern (32), Point (30), Faulkner (20) and Mobile (13) round out the poll.
The Wolf Pack returns six golfers this academic year, which makes up four of the six who traveled to the NAIA National Championship in May. Senior Catherine Singletary is the most experienced of the bunch, having played in 29 tournaments throughout her career, and SSAC Newcomer of the Year, Sarah Meral, also returns after a solid first year with the Wolf Pack. Aaliyah Achary, Sydney D'Avella, Evie Sisk and Lauren Waltzer all played a key role on the team last season as well. Joining those six are four newcomers.
Loyola's first tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, September 15, at Keiser University's Seahawk Shootout in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
