Track and Field prepares for NAIA Outdoor Championships

The Loyola track and field programs will bring seven student-athletes to Marion, Indiana, this week

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's track and field programs are in Marion, Indiana, this week to compete in the NAIA Outdoor Championships, and Loyola is sending a total of seven student-athletes to the national meet. Ollie Brumfield IV, Caleb Curry, Bryce Darensbourg, Dallas Hughes, and Jonell Scott will represent the men's team on the track with Tenosh Landry and Jordyn Minor competing for the Wolf Pack women in field events. All of Loyola's student-athletes in the NAIA Outdoor Championships will be participating in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers.
 

Appearing at the NAIA Outdoor Championships for the first time, Landry and Minor achieved NAIA A standard qualification in their respective events, posting marks among the top NAIA performances. Landry qualified for the high jump at the New Orleans Triangular, recording an outstanding performance of 1.71 meters. The Marrero, Louisiana, native's spot is a program record and tied for the sixth best among all NAIA competitors. With a first-place finish in the SSAC Championships, Minor established the fifth-best mark in the NAIA with a long jump of 6.04 meters. With her performance, Minor joined Landry on the SSAC All-Conference First Team, also recording a program record. Minor is set to compete at 5 p.m. CDT on Wednesday with the Women's SSAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year Landry competing at 1 p.m. CDT on Friday.
 

Curry will compete in the 400-meter hurdles this week after notching an NAIA A standard performance of 52.23 at the New Orleans Triangular, the ninth-fastest time in the NAIA. The freshman set a program record in the event after previously earning B standard qualification earlier in the season. In the SSAC Championships, Curry earned a spot on the SSAC All-Conference Third Team for his performance at the conference championships. The Kenner, Louisiana, native will make his national championship debut on Wednesday, at 3:55 p.m. CDT in the preliminary round
 

Brumfield, Darensbourg, Hughes, and Scott will join Curry in Indiana, competing in the men's 4x400-meter relay. Brumfield, Hughes, Darensbourg, and Curry posted a B standard qualifying spot of 3:14.04 at the SSAC Championships to punch their tickets to the national championships. The SSAC Third Team All-Conference quartet will take part in the preliminary event on Thursday, at 7:45 p.m. CDT.
