Loyola Track and Field battles at SSAC Championships

The Wolf Pack had two qualifying performances for the NAIA National Championships this weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. –  Loyola's men's and women's track and field programs headed to the SSAC Championships for a two-day meet in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Wolf Pack had its second and third national qualifiers of the season on Friday. The Loyola women finished third out of nine teams, while the Wolf Pack men were fifth out of eight programs.
 

The Wolf Pack Track and Field teams will return to competition when the programs take part in the New Orleans Triangular at Tad Gormley Stadium on Saturday, at 8 a.m.

National Qualifier

  • Jordyn Minor posted a historic performance on Friday. The sophomore easily took first place with a record-breaking distance of 6.04 meters in the long jump. Minor's 6.04-meter mark is the third-best performance by any NAIA long jumper, giving her NAIA A Standard qualification for the NAIA National Championships. Easily surpassing the qualifying mark of 5.87 meters, Minor will attend the Outdoor National Championships for the first time in her collegiate career. In fact, each of Minor's attempts qualified her for A Standard. Minor also broke Loyola Hall of Famer Leah Banks' all-time record of 5.64 meters to set a new Loyola record, in addition to beating her previous best by over 0.6 meters.

  • Loyola's 4x400-meter relay team captured an NAIA B Standard qualifying mark on Saturday. The team of Ollie Brumfield IV, Dallas Hughes, Bryce Darensbourg, and Caleb Curry recorded a time of 3:14.04 to earn third place, a school record, and qualify for May's NAIA National Championships.

SSAC Champion

  • Tenosh Landry was a first-place finisher on Saturday, winning the high jump to give Loyola its second victory of the weekend. Landry completed the event with a mark of 1.60 meters.

  • Sofia DiVincenti won the javelin throw on Saturday with a distance of 33.65 meters. DiVincenti's 33.65 meters is the fourth-best spot in the Loyola record book.

  • Brumfield won the 110-meter hurdles and claimed the program record on Saturday. With a finish of 14.84, Brumfield broke his previous program record and became the first  Loyola track and field athlete in program history to record a time under 15 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.

Top 3 Finish

  • With a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, Madison Ackerman added a top-five program record to the record book. Ackerman completed the event in 15.77 to earn the fifth-best spot in program history.

  • Jasmine Martinez ended the 1,500-meter run in third place on Saturday. The graduate student completed the race in 4:53.22.

  • Olivia Leroux also finished in the top three, getting second place in the javelin throw with a distance of 31.41 meters. 

  • In the 400-meter hurdles, national qualifier Curry earned the third-best time in program history and a third-place finish. Curry logged a time of 54.60, the third-best spot in the Loyola record book.

  • Jacob Kennedy claimed a top-three spot for the Wolf Pack. The sophomore ended the 10,000-meter run in 33:57.54 to receive third place in the event.

  • In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Jace Luckoski closed the event in the top three, securing a third-place performance of 10:10.32.

  • Loyola's relay team in the 4x800-meter race recorded a top-three finish in addition to a program-best time. Joseph Medina, Alex Medina, Darensbourg, and Mason Mack posted a second-place finish of 7:53.70, the best in program history.

  • In the javelin throw, Elio Bejaran captured second place with a toss of 50.40 meters to add another top-three finish for the Wolf Pack.

Program Record

  • Minor set another program record at the SSAC Championships on Saturday. The sophomore ended the 100-meter dash with a program-best 12.05 time to get sixth place.

  • Hughes recorded a program-best in the 400-meter dash. The freshman set a time of 48.60 in the event to earn sixth place, along with the best time in the Wolf Pack record book for the 400-meter run.

  • In the 4x100-meter relay, Loyola notched another program record. Jack Ourso, Jonell Scott, Hughes, and Eric Griffin set a record-breaking time of 41.81 and took fifth place in Saturday's contest.

Record Book Movement

  • Martinez finished in fifth place in the 10,000-meter run, recording a time of 42:30.81. Martinez's time is the fourth-best mark in school history. In the 800-meter run, Martinez notched the fifth-best time in program history of 2:21.63. Martinez ended the 800-meter race in fourth.

  • Sarah Haas' time of 15:28.56 is the fourth-best spot in program history in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Haas concluded the contest in seventh place.

  • Loyola's relay team of Ayva Smith, Leila Santana, Madison Reado, and Leroux notched the fourth-best time in the Wolf Pack record book with a 4:13.51 performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The team ended the relay in fourth place.

  • Curry posted a time of 15.58 in the 110-meter hurdles to record the fourth-best spot in program history. Curry ended the contest in eighth place.

  • Brumfield earned the fourth-best time in the Loyola record book in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman logged a time of 55.32 and a fourth-place finish.

  • Richard Magann earned the second-best performance in the Loyola record book with a hammer throw of 38.96 meters. The Lafayette, Louisiana, native recorded seventh place in the event. Peyton Joshua also posted a top-five program mark in the hammer throw. Joshua achieved a distance of 37.56 meters to end the event in ninth and claim the fourth-best spot in the record book.

  • In the discus throw, Magann achieved the second-best spot in program history. The junior received a seventh-place finish of 41.37 meters.
