Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

No. 5 William Carey narrowly surpasses No. 8 Loyola on Senior Day

The Wolf Pack will close out the week with another conference match against UT Southern

NEW ORLEANS – In the team's second top-10 matchup in five days, the No. 8 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team fell 4-3 against No. 5 William Carey on Wednesday at City Park. Loyola also celebrated Senior Day on its last home match of the season, honoring Reilly Briggs, Ana Cecilia Castillo, Adele Fereres, and Avery Frierson.

Loyola's overall record drops to 10-4 in the 2025 spring season, including 2-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference matches.

The Wolf Pack started the afternoon winning the doubles point for the 11th consecutive match. After a strong Carey team swept court 2 doubles, Loyola got a win at the No. 1 spot, 6-3 to Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson. The 11th ranked doubles team in the NAIA, Carpenter and Henderson improved to 13-1 this season with the win.

Fereres and Micaela Ponce came back in their court 3 doubles match to send it into a lengthy tiebreak. After the Crusaders fought off a few match points, Ponce and Fereres closed it out at 9-7 to win their match 7-6 and clinch the doubles point.

William Carey flipped the script in singles, winning on the first three courts. They were able to get their fourth singles win and take the match after Avrora Volkova won the first set 6-1 but Carey won the next two to prevail on court 6.

Frierson had the first singles win for the Pack on Wednesday, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) on court 5. The last match to finish was court 4, where Fereres toughed out a super-tiebreak win after the two previous sets also went to tiebreakers. Fereres played a total of four tiebreaks between singles and doubles, coming out on top in her singles match 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-4), 10-8 in what was her team-high 10th singles victory of the year.

The Wolf Pack will close out the week with another SSAC opponent, facing Tennessee Southern on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala. The match is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
