No. 8 Loyola wins 6-1 at Mobile Saturday

MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 8 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 6-1 conference victory over the University of Mobile at the Gerald L. Wallace Tennis Complex. 

With the win, Loyola improves to 13-5 this season, 4-2 in conference play, and the Pack locked up the third seed in the upcoming Southern States Athletic Conference Championship, which will also be in Mobile. The Wolf Pack will open the tournament on Thursday, April 17, against sixth seed Blue Mountain Christian, a team they previously swept 7-0. 

Isabella Leaño and Adele Fereres rolled at No. 3 doubles on Saturday, 6-0 to begin the match. Then Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson won 6-1 to wrap up the doubles point, and Loyola went for the sweep with Avery Frierson and Reilly Briggs winning 6-4 on court 2. 

Henderson and Carpenter have the most wins of any doubles team in a season in Wolf Pack history, now with a 16-1 record in the spring.

Frierson started singles play breezing through her match on court 4 (6-0, 6-1), and Henderson followed on court 2 (6-1, 6-1). Fereres had a perfect second set to win on court 3 (6-2, 6-0) and clinch the match for the Pack. Lucy Carpenter (6-4, 6-4) and Avrora Volkova (6-2, 6-1) also won in straight sets, with Mobile's only win, which took two tiebreaks, coming after the match was already decided.
