No. 8 Loyola breezes through SSAC opening round

The Wolf Pack tied a program record for wins in a season with a 5-0 victory over Blue Mountain on Thursday

MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team began the 2025 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship tournament Thursday morning at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Wolf Pack started the tournament with a win, 5-0 over Blue Mountain Christian University.

With the win, Loyola now has a 14-5 overall record, tying the 2023 team for most wins in a season in program history. No. 8 Loyola will now play No. 6 Middle Georgia in the SSAC semifinals, with the match scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center. The teams previously met on March 29, with MGA barely getting past the Pack 4-3 in that contest.

The Wolf Pack's two ranked doubles teams were back in action Thursday, with both winning their matches while only dropping one game combined to help capture the doubles point. The No. 5 duo of Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson improved to 17-1 on the season with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Then the No. 46 team of Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres, now 13-1 this season, closed out doubles play with a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Henderson set the tone in singles, winning both sets 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position. Then, three other Wolf Pack players all won their matches by a score of 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match for Loyola. Isabella Leaño won on court 6, Avery Frierson on court 4, and Adele Fereres on court 3 to close things out. Frierson (10-3) became the fourth Wolf Pack player to reach double digit wins this season, while Fereres (14-2) now leads the 2025 team in wins.

Lucy Carpenter (6-1, 5-0) and Avrora Volkova (6-2, 2-2) were both up a set in their singles matches as well, but the team win was clinched before their matches could finish.
