No. 8 Loyola gets past No. 20 Our Lady of the Lake

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack played their fourth match in six days on Sunday, facing No. 20-ranked Our Lady of the Lake at Dillard University's tennis courts. The Pack added the doubles point to three singles victories to take the match by a final score of 4-1. 

Now over halfway through the regular season, Loyola has a 9-2 overall record. The team is also 8-1 in matches against NAIA competition, having won five straight NAIA matches. 

In the five-match NAIA winning streak, Avery Frierson and Reilly Briggs have won three doubles matches together. They got the first win of Sunday's match, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson clinched doubles play for the Pack, 6-2 over OLLU's top pair, which was ranked No. 47 in the NAIA. 

Carpenter and Henderson, the nation's No. 12-ranked doubles team, now have a 10-1 record this season. 

Micaela Ponce got things started in singles competition, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. Carpenter was next, winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. OLLU claimed its first point on the scoreboard with a three-set win at No. 2 singles, but Adele Fereres was able to close out the match at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-2. Avrora Volkova also won the first set in her match at No. 5 singles but the team win was clinched before her match could finish. 

Next up on the schedule, the Wolf Pack will return to conference action March 28-29 in the SSAC Roundup in Montgomery, Ala. Loyola will look for its 10th win of the season, with matches against Abraham Baldwin and Middle Georgia.
