No. 8 Loyola shuts out Hope International

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team was back at Dillard University's tennis courts Friday morning, just 12 hours after defeating Lewis-Clark State Thursday night. The quick turnaround didn't affect the Pack too much, however, as they swept Hope International in a 7-0 result. 

The Wolf Pack's record this year is now 8-2 after four straight wins over NAIA teams. 

Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres continued their solid doubles run with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles to begin the match. They're now 9-2 this season and are winners of seven straight. The No. 11-ranked NAIA doubles team, Chloe Henderson and Lucy Carpenter, also stayed strong at No. 1 doubles, claiming the doubles point for the Pack with a 6-2 win, their fourth straight.

Closing out doubles competition Friday, Avery Frierson and Ana Cecilia Castillo teamed up for the first time since the fall, winning 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. 

All Loyola players won in straight sets in singles, with nine of the 12 sets ending either 6-1 or 6-0. 

At courts 1, 3, and 5, Carpenter, Ponce, and Fereres were the first to start their matches. Adding the doubles point and those three singles matches, the team win was wrapped up for the Pack before courts 2, 4, and 6 began. But all matches played out, so Henderson, Frierson, and Avrora Volkova all picked up singles victories as well. 

The Wolf Pack will close out the four-match week with a contest against No. 20 Our Lady of the Lake on Sunday. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the XULA Tennis Center.
