NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team went across town to Dillard University's tennis facility on Thursday to play the first of three NAIA matches this week. The No. 8 Wolf Pack defeated Lewis-Clark State College 6-1 to start the weekend off strong.
With the win, Loyola moves to 7-2 overall this season, 6-1 against NAIA competition.
The Pack swept doubles on Thursday, with the Warriors only winning six games total between the three doubles matches. Adele Fereres and Micaela Ponce won their sixth doubles match in a row, 6-1 on court 3. That duo has only dropped three total games in their last three matches. Avery Frierson and Reilly Briggs, who also won in their match against Blue Mountain, picked up a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles to improve to 2-0.
With the doubles point already clinched, the No. 1 pair of Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson won 6-3 to complete the sweep.
Frierson got the first win for the Pack in singles, 6-3, 6-1 on court 6. Henderson was next, winning her fourth consecutive match at No. 2 singles and doing it in straight sets. Ponce clinched the team win for the Pack, 6-4, 6-3 on court 3.
Closing out the match, Carpenter won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 singles. Fereres was the last match to start, but she needed less than an hour to finish her match, 6-1, 6-1 on court 5.
Loyola will return to Dillard's tennis facility Friday morning to try to collect a fourth consecutive win against NAIA competition. The Wolf Pack will face Hope International, with the match scheduled for 10 a.m.
