Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team earned another victory over a ranked NAIA squad on Friday at the SSAC/Sun/AAC crossover challenge. No. 9 Loyola of the Southern States Athletic Conference faced No. 14 St. Thomas (Fla.) from the Sun Conference, with the Wolf Pack coming out on top, 4-2.
Loyola is now 3-0 on the season. It's the most consecutive wins to start a season in program history.
The Pack won the match on Friday despite dropping the doubles point. Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson were solid again at No. 1 doubles, earning a 6-3 win, but St. Thomas claimed the doubles point with wins on the other two courts.
In singles, Loyola did just enough to secure the match win, with wins coming on courts 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Avrora Volkova quickly wrapped up her match at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2, with Henderson following closely behind in a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 2 court. Carpenter was next to finish, 6-4, 6-2 on court 1
St. Thomas picked up one singles point with a court 3 win, and Juliette Finch's match was in the midst of a third set after she won the second in a tiebreak, but Adele Fereres was able to clinch the match for the Pack (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) in a court 4 win.
A highly anticipated matchup with No. 8 SCAD Savannah awaits the Wolf Pack on Saturday to close out the crossover challenge. The teams previously met at the Mobile Tennis Center nearly a year ago in the 2024 NAIA National Championship tournament, with Loyola defeating the fourth-seeded SCAD to reach the tournament quarterfinals for the first time.
