COHUTTA, Ga. – The conditions were tough for everyone, but the Loyola University New Orleans women's golf team outlasted the rest of the field on Monday to take a commanding lead in the Alice Lloyd Eagle Invitational. The Wolf Pack had a team score of 315 (+27) after the first round on Monday, and they lead second-place Oakland City (+55) by 28 strokes with the second and final round set for Tuesday.
Heavy rain caused a delayed start to the first round, and it reduced the tournament from 54 holes to 36. Players still had to play through wet conditions, as all five of Loyola's golfers finished in the Top 10 after the day.
Freshman Johanna Haver sits all alone in first place with a two-stroke lead over teammate Senior Catherine Singletary. Haver shot a first-round 76 (+4) and Singletary had a 78 (+6). Haver used four birdies to get to her score, while Singletary had 11 pars and a birdie on her card.
Freshman Alyssa Moncada is in fourth after her round of 80 (+8), followed by senior Sarah Meral in a tie for fifth after shooting an 81 (+9). Finally, Aaliyah Achary's 84 (+12) is good enough for ninth place currently.
