MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Continuing the Southern States Athletic Conference Roundup in Montgomery, the Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over the Tennessee Southern Firehawks on Friday. It was the first meeting between the teams since February 2019.
The Wolf Pack ranks among the best teams in the conference, as the team now sports a 4-1 record in SSAC matches, 6-5 overall. The Roundup wraps up Saturday, as the Pack are scheduled to face the Point University Skyhawks, conference newcomers who currently sit in last place in the SSAC.
Chloe Henderson and Adele Fereres continued their dominance in NAIA doubles to start the match, winning 6-1 on court 3. The duo is now 7-0 against NAIA teams, 5-0 in the SSAC, and they'll look to get their 10th win of the season on Saturday, now with a 9-1 record. The doubles point was clinched by the sibling pair of Lucy Carpenter and Elly Carpenter, who also won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Ariana Salgueiro-Estela and Micaela Ponce rounded out doubles play with a 6-4 win, their first of the year at the No. 1 spot.
In singles, Avrora Volkova rolled over her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to win her third match of the spring. Lucy Carpenter kept things going, winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. The NAIA's No. 10-ranked singles player, Carpenter is now an unbeaten 8-0 against NAIA competition, 5-0 in conference. Clinching the match for the Pack, Henderson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win on court 3.
Wrapping up singles play, Ponce, Fereres, and Isabella Leaño all earned straight-sets victories to make it a 7-0 team win.
