No. 8 Wolf Pack breezes past Blue Mountain into SSAC semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Women's Tennis Championship began on Wednesday, and the No. 8-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack secured a 4-0 win in the opening round against Blue Mountain Christian University. 

Loyola improved to 10-6 on the season with the win, marking the first time since 2019 that the team has put together back-to-back seasons of at least 10 wins. Next up for the second-seeded Pack on Thursday is the semifinal, where No. 3 seed William Carey awaits after sweeping UT Southern in the first round. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Montgomery. 

Blue Mountain was competing with just five players, meaning that Loyola got a win by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Elly Carpenter and Lucy Carpenter wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-0 sweep on court 2. 

Already with a 2-0 advantage in singles, Loyola got two wins on courts 3 and 4 to clinch the match. Avrora Volkova was nearly flawless at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 for her seventh win of the year, and Chloe Henderson picked up her 11th singles win of the year, 6-2, 6-3, to end the match.
