MOBILE, Ala. – The weekend of Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) tennis action wrapped up on Saturday with NAIA No. 12 Loyola facing No. 4 Middle Georgia, with the Knights winning the match 5-2.
With its four-match winning streak snapped, the Wolf Pack's overall record this season now stands at 4-4, with a 3-1 record in conference play. Loyola takes a break from SSAC competition with road contests against Fordham and Louisiana Christian before resuming the SSAC Roundup in Montgomery, Ala. on April 5.
Loyola once again got off to a good start in Saturday's match, claiming the doubles point behind wins on courts 2 and 3. Micaela Ponce and Ariana Salgueiro-Estela got the first win of the day, 6-4 on court 2 to improve to 5-2 on the season. Adele Fereres and Chloe Henderson also won in a 7-5 tiebreak to improve to 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Lucy Carpenter came back from down a set to win her sixth straight NAIA match in a long three-setter (6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Outside of Carpenter's win, however, Middle Georgia was able to claim victory on all five other singles courts, despite Ponce and Henderson winning the first set in their matches.
