COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's swim teams traveled to Columbus, Georgia, to compete in the Sun Conference Championships this week.Â
Â
The two teams started the meet on Thursday by swimming the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM and 50-yard freestyle during the morning's preliminary rounds, before battling in the finals of those events, plus the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay, in the evening. The meet continues on Friday with seven more swimming events: 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle relay, and 400-yard medley relay.Â
Â
Three school records were broken during the morning prelims, then two of those were broken again in the evening. A women's relay program record was broken as well. Â
Â
Benjamin Chehebar got the day started by breaking the five-year-old 500-yard freestyle program mark with a time of 4:43.20, which is less than a second better than the previous record. He beat that time during Thursday night's final races, swimming a 4:40.87 to place 10th in the conference.Â
Â
Catherine Streeter was next with a 24.07 time in the 50-yard freestyle Thursday morning, which was .20 of a second better than the previous program-best mark set two years ago. She'd go on to top that mark again in the evening, swimming a 24.00 to place sixth overall.Â
Â
In the same event as Streeter, Tate Bladon bested his own school record Thursday morning with a time of 20.37, which was .18 of a second better than the record he set at last year's Sun Conference Championship. He'd go on to finish eighth with a time of 20.52 during Thursday night's finals.Â
Â
The 200-yard medley relay team of Eve Thomas, Zada Streeter, Kailee Robaina, and Catherine Streeter made it four school records broken when they achieved that feat Thursday night. The four combined to swim a 1:48.76 to take fourth in the conference and beat the Loyola program record by less than a second. It was the second time this season that this group has broken the 200 medley record as well.Â
