Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team played its third and final NCAA exhibition of the 2024-25 season on Friday, taking on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. After a close first quarter, Louisiana pulled away to win by a final score of 74-50.
Loyola will return to NAIA games with a conference matchup against the University of Mobile on the road. The game is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
The home team got a couple second-chance buckets to start the scoring Friday evening, but free throws by Caitlin Travis got the Pack on the board. Then, a three-pointer from Libby Thompson and free throw from Deniya Thornton tied things up at 6-6. More free throws from Thornton and a triple from Bria McClure tied the score again at 11-11 before the Cajuns closed the opening quarter with four points in 11 seconds to lead 15-11 heading into the second.
The Cajuns kept up the scoring in the next quarter, going up double digits at 23-11 before Thornton stopped the run with a three-pointer. Another big home scoring run stretched UL's lead to 33-14, with MG Lymon hitting a triple with eight seconds left until halftime to cut the deficit to 33-17 at the break.
Travis started the third quarter with a pair of layups and a Thompson three got the Pack within 13 points at the 5:30 mark, 37-24. Loyola did well offensively, scoring 18 points in the third, but their opponents put up 20 in the period to lead 53-35 going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw Travis and Alissa O'Dell go a combined 4-of-4 from the field and Thompson hit her third three-pointer of the game as the Pack scored 15 in the frame. However, UL had its best offensive quarter, scoring 21 points to close out the game.
Travis led the team in points with 13, while O'Dell had a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards. Thornton and Thompson each posted nine points.
