Women’s golf claims 15th all-time team win

ATHENS, Ala. – For the second time this season and the fifth time in 2024, the Loyola Wolf Pack women's golf team are tournament champions, claiming the Firehawk Invite title this week in Athens, Alabama. It's also the program's 15th all-time team win in its 10-year history. 
 

The Wolf Pack shot a two-round total of 608 (+32) to win the tournament by 35 strokes over Midway (Ky.) and Spring Hill (Ala.). Loyola's total and to-par scores are both tied for the sixth-best 36-hole tournament marks in program history. 
 

Catherine Singletary and Sarah Meral led the Wolf Pack with Top 5 finishes, and Blair McKenzie made it three in the Top 10. Singletary earned her ninth career Top 5 finish, which moves her into a tie for 4th all-time in Loyola women's golf history, with a tournament score of 147 (+3). Both of those scores are tied for eighth in the program's record books, too. Meral, who has placed in the Top 10 in every tournament with the Wolf Pack, finally cracked the Top 5 for the first time this season with a tournament score of 150 (+6). McKenzie tied for ninth (+13) to earn her 13th career Top 10 placement, moving the senior up to fourth all-time in that category. 
 

Singletary capped off her tournament with an even-par, 72 round on Tuesday. Starting on the 10th tee, her first nine holes were up and down with four bogeys, three pars and two birdies to make the turn 2-over. Then the League City, Texas, native started her second nine with back-to-back birdies before stringing birdies together on her 15th and 16th holes to help her score. 
 

Meral had an even-par first nine thanks to two birdies and two bogeys, then went 1-over on her second nine to help move into the Top 5 of the individual leaderboard. McKenzie moved up on Tuesday as well thanks to her second-round 77 (+5). Aidan McLachlan added a 79 (+7) to Loyola's scoring, and Sydney D'Avella finished her tournament with an 86 (+14). Playing as an individual, Evie Sisk shot a 90 (+18) during her second round. 
 

This week was Loyola's final tournament of the fall schedule, and they'll resume competition in February.
