NEW ORLEANS – Kaitlyn Becnel represented the Pack on Thursday when she competed in the Dillard-Xavier Dual Meet on Dillard's campus. At the meet, Becnel tied the best spot in Loyola's record book for high jump.
On Wednesday, May 24, the Loyola will begin competing in the NAIA Championships in Marion, Indiana. There, Kaitlyn Becnel and Bryana Bazile will represent the Wolf Pack as they compete against the best athletes in the NAIA.
The junior high jumper went into the meet with a 1.64-meter personal best, set in the 2022 SSAC Championships. On Thursday, Becnel surpassed that with her second-place finish in high jump at 1.65 meters. Becnel's performance on Thursday is the best since 2016.
Becnel's 1.65 meters also qualified her for NAIA B standard, which ties the 13th-best finish in the NAIA. Becnel will compete in the event for the second time, after competing in last year's National Championships, earning 1.64 meters in 2022.
