Wolf Pack clashes in Conference Championships

The Pack battled SSAC rivals at South Alabama this weekend

Mobile, Ala. – The Loyola Track & Field teams traveled to Mobile, Alabama for the SSAC Championships. There, the Wolf Pack competed against familiar faces of the Southern States Athletic Conference. In the two-day meet, the Pack men took an eighth-place finish as a team. The Wolf Pack women earned a fifth-place finish on the weekend.

 

On Friday, April 28, the Wolf Pack will travel to Clinton, Mississippi to compete in the Mississippi College Invitational.

 

The Wolf Pack women had a strong outing in Mobile, taking two first-place finishes. Both Kaitlyn Becnel and Bryana Bazile won their events, reaching 1.59 meters in high jump, and throwing the discus for 42.09 meters.

 

Bazile also earned a third-place finish in hammer, getting the fourth-best spot in program history at 39.98 meters. On Saturday, Bazile earned the best shot put distance in program history, getting fourth place with 12.98 meters. The NAIA B Qualifier now owns program records in discus and shot put.

 

Amber Byrd, Madisyn Acosta, Mallory Foret, and Lauren Goens got a fifth-place finish in the 4 by 800-meter relay, completing the race in 10:17.17. The Loyola relay team's time becomes the fourth-best in program history. Byrd, Acosta, Foret, and Becnel competed in the 4 by 400-meter relay, finishing in fourth place, and earning the fourth-best spot in program history.

 

Acosta also had a strong performance in the 5,000-meter run, earning second place. Her 18:57.20 time in the 5,000-meter run stands as the fourth-best spot in program history. She didn't stop there, earning fourth place in the 800-meter run. Acosta earned the fourth-best spot in the Wolf Pack record book with her 2:22.44 time. 

 

The Wolf Pack men had two school records over the weekend. Richard Magann continued to improve his personal best on Friday, earning sixth place in the hammer throw. His 35.59-meter distance is the best in program history. Now, Magann holds each of the top-five performances in the record book for the hammer throw.

 

Alex Medina added himself to the list of program records with his performance in the 800-meter run. Medina finished in fourth place in the event with his 1:56.28 time becoming the best in program history. Braddock Lord completed the 110-meter hurdles in sixth place with a time of 16.62. Lord's time in the hurdles becomes the third-best in Loyola history.
