JACKSON, Miss. – The Pack entered the second meet of the outdoor season on Saturday in the Belhaven Invitational. Loyola's athletes competed against a variety of teams from NAIA programs like Dillard and Stillman College and two NCAA Division II programs, such as West Alabama and Mississippi College.Â
The Pack will continue their season on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The Wolf Pack women began the day with Mykhala Coleman getting first place in shot put. Her distance of 12.67 meters in the shot put is the fifth-best distance in program history. Not only did NAIA B standard qualifier Bryana Bazile finish in second, behind Coleman in the shot put, but she also earned first place in discus with a 41.50-meter distance. Coleman claimed second place in hammer with 37.57 meters while Shaylah Robinson got third with 37.20 meters. Coleman's and Robinson's performances earned them the fourth and fifth-best distances in Loyola's record book.Â
Kaitlyn Becnel claimed victory in the high jump with a first-place finish of 1.55 meters.
After earning SSAC Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Madisyn Acosta finished first in the 800-meter run, completing the race in 2:23.39 for the fifth-best time in program history.
Blair Turner was one of the highlights of the day for the Wolf Pack, getting a sixth-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.95 seconds. Turner's time comes out to the second-best spot in program history, becoming the best time since 2015. Braddock Lord finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:03.02 time.Â
Richard Magann earned third and fourth places in discus and hammer. His third-place finish of 36.18 meters in discus now becomes the second-best distance in program history and the best Loyola performance since 1996. His fourth-place finish in hammer of 30.72 meters also became the second-best spot in the Wolf Pack record book. Christian Keys earned the fifth-best spot in the record book with his javelin throw of 46.24 meters. Keys made the second-best distance in program history with his shot put throw of 11.02 meters.
