Wolf Pack kicks off Outdoor Track and Field season Saturday

The Loyola men’s and women’s teams traveled to Mobile, Alabama to compete against mostly NCAA D1 programs at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – Loyola began the outdoor track and field season in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, competing at the South Alabama Invitational. The Pack competed against five other programs, including three NCAA Division I schools in Southern Miss, Southeastern Missouri, and South Alabama, as well as an SSAC opponent in Mobile. 
 

Next, the Wolf Pack will travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to compete in the Belhaven Invitational on Saturday, March 25.
 

The Wolf Pack women began their day with Madisyn Acosta earning a first place finish and second-best spot in program history in the 800-meter run. In that race, Acosta finished with a 2:19.65 time, one second behind her best time. Acosta also earned a record in the 1,500-meter run, claiming second place with a 4:56.18 mark that gets fourth-best in the Wolf Pack record book. Bryana Bazile began her outdoor season with a fifth-place finish in discus with 42.94 meters and a second-best spot in the record book. That performance also earned her the NAIA B standard for National Championship qualifying. In hammer, Bazile finished seventh to claim another top-five record with a 36.36-meter distance. 
 

Amber Byrd and Isabel Esteb followed Acosta in the 800-meter run, finishing third and fourth, respectively. The Loyola runners finished with 2:36.75 and 2:40.83 times.
 

The Wolf Pack men started the meet with Blair Turner's 11.01 performance in the 100-meter dash that ties third in Loyola's record book and earned him seventh place in the event. Braddock Lord also earned the third-best spot in the record book with a ninth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a 16.70 time. Christian Keys earned 12th place in shot put with 10.64 meters for the fifth-best distance in the record book. Richard Magann earned 12th in the discus with a 34.72-meter distance that earned him the second-best spot in the record book. Magann competed in the hammer, finishing 15th with a 31.31-meter performance that gets the best distance in program history.
