WESTWEGO – Saturday was a nice bounce-back day for the No. 23 Loyola Wolf Pack baseball team. After losing both games of Friday's doubleheader to the Freed-Hardeman Lions, the Pack salvaged one game with a dominant effort in the third game of the series, 13-2.Â
Â
Loyola is back at Segnette Field next weekend, hosting LSU Alexandria for a three-game series starting Friday at 5 p.m.
Â
After the Lions captured a 2-0 lead in the second inning, Loyola pushed runs across in the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings to swing the momentum. The rally in the fourth started when Tucker Ganley singled with one out. Christopher Bohrer and Jake Mills singled during the next two at-bats, with Mills' base hit bringing home the first run and it put runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Hopkins tied the game, 2-2. In the fifth, Brandon Mooney walked with one out, then a groundout moved him into scoring position. Ross Selvaggi and Ganley doubled in consecutive at-bats to score two more runs, 4-2.Â
Â
The Pack busted the game with a six-spot in the next inning, as Mills and Hopkins started the frame with a walk and a hit by pitch. Davis loaded the bases with a bunt single, and Mooney, Cole Romero and Clement followed with three straight hits to extend the advantage to 8-2. The Wolf Pack wasn't done either, getting a single from Ganley to plate another run and a ground out from Bohrer scored the final run of the inning, 10-2.Â
Â
Romero and Clement walked to start the eighth, and a two-error play by the FHU second baseman scored a run, 11-2 and put two runners in scoring position. Back-to-back sacrifice flies would end Loyola's scoring, 13-2.Â
Â
Matthew Weil got the start on the bump for the Wolf Pack, and he struck out seven while allowing two earned runs off four hits in four innings of work. Reid Perkins earned the win in relief, pitching the next two innings of one-hit ball, then Thomas Hakimian earned the save by pitching the final three innings while only giving up two hits with two strikeouts.Â
