Wolf Pack indoor begins regular season at Dillard on Friday

The Loyola men’s and women’s track and field teams started the 2023 season at the Dillard Classic, competing against six other programs

NEW ORLEANS – Following the 2022 season, filled with many school records, the Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's track and field programs set out to continue that trend on Friday as they began the 2023 campaign, taking on four other NAIA teams in Dillard, Xavier-Louisiana, University of Mobile, and Jarvis Christian University.
 

The meet took place at Joe W. Brown Park's outdoor facility in New Orleans, but it's counted as an indoor competition. 
 

The Wolf Pack women highlighted the day, earning first-place finishes in every event they competed in. Madisyn Acosta earned a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:17.28. In that same event, Amber Byrd finished second in 3:41.02, while Isabel Esteb and Lauren Goens finished in fourth and sixth places with times of 3:50.68 and 3:51.54. With the 1,000-meter run, the Pack competed in their first of the event, setting the standard for the run in Loyola's record book.
 

Following their success in the run, Acosta, Byrd, Esteb and Jasmine Martinez finished first in the 4x800-meter relay in 11:02.53 for the second-best time in the school record book. Next up, Mykhala Coleman finished first in shot put, achieving a distance of 11.53m. Bryana Bazile was next, finishing second with a distance of 11.36m. Kimora Daniel, Shaylah Robinson, and Cameron Diaz followed, finishing sixth, eleventh, and twelfth with distances of 10.54m, 8.85m, and 8.31m. In the weight throw, Mykhala Coleman claimed her second first-place finish of the day throwing for 12.54m getting the fourth-best distance in the school record book. Just behind Coleman, Jolie Matherne threw for a distance of 12.22m, earning second place and claiming the fifth-best distance in Loyola's record book. Bryana Bazile and Shaylah Robinson were next up for the Pack, earning each of the top four finishes in the weight throw with distances of 11.08m and 10.73m.
 

In the men's events, Blair Turner, Aaron McFadden, and Alexander Smith earned ninth, tenth, and eleventh in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.27, 7.28, and 7.38. In the 200-meter dash, Turner, Braddock Lord, Smith, and McFadden finished ninth, eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth with times of 23.35, 24.51, 25.42, and 29.07, respectively. In the 1,000-meter run, Peter Nelson-Broderick earned a sixth-place finish, completing the race in 3:22.43. In the 60-meter hurdles, Lord earned second, ending the event in 9.14, just one-hundredth of a second short of his personal best and a school record. 
 

In the shot put, Richard Magann and Christian Keys finished third and fourth with distances of 10.85m and 10.70m, the third and fourth best distances in the Pack's record book. In the weight throw, Magann and Keys finished second and fourth, reaching distances of 9.51m and 7.73m.
 

Next, the Pack will travel to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese Indoor Event at the Ralph O. Ward Rec Complex on Saturday, January 14th at 9 a.m.
