Loyola places four on SSAC Golf Scholar-Athlete Teams

Logan Peterson, Sebastian Salazar, Callee Breland, and Daniella Salazar received recognition for their work on and off the course

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference released the 2021-22 Men's and Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Teams on Tuesday, and four Loyola Wolf Pack student-athletes received recognition.

Logan Peterson was named to the SSAC Scholar-Athlete Team for the second year in a row, while Sebastian Salazar, Callee Breland, and Daniella Salazar each received the honor for the first time.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50 percent of competitions. Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school.

Peterson's highlight of the season came at the Loyola-hosted Wolf Pack Invitational in March, as the junior placed third overall with a 9-over three-round score. He had scores of 74, 76 and 75 in the tournament, but his low-round of the year (70) came at the SSAC Championship a month later. He also had an 11th-place finish at the Firehawk Invitational in October with a 14-over score.

Sebastian Salazar transferred into the program prior to the 2021-22 season, and he began his time with the Wolf Pack by tying with Peterson for 11th at the Firehawk Invitational. The Quito, Ecuador native also had a 14th-place finish at the Wolf Pack Invitational (+19) and a 15th-place finish at the SSAC Championship (+9) this season.

In addition to her third-straight All-Academic Team appearance, Breland was named to the SSAC's All-Conference Team for the second-straight season. She ranks inside the Top 100 nationally, coming in at No. 91 in the NAIA Golfstat rankings. The highlight of her season came at the Wolf Pack Invitational in March, placing fourth overall for her first Top 5 of the season.

While Daniella Salazar was just outside of making the All-Conference Team, she is ranked in the top 150 golfers in the NAIA Golfstat rankings. Salazar had two Top 10 finishes during the season, including tying for seventh at the Wolf Pack Invitational. Her best finish of the year was at the Ram Invitational in February, where she carded rounds of 75 and 74, her lowest of the year, to secure a fifth-place finish.
