NEW ORLEANS – On Monday, men's and women's golf head coach Cory Amory announced two to the coaching staff. Robert Burns joins the Wolf Pack as an assistant, having several years of playing experience at the amateur level and the collegiate level for Loyola Marymount University. A five-year Loyola student-athlete, Logan Peterson comes back to the Pack as an assistant coach.
Â
"I am very fortunate to have these talented and motivated coaches on our staff," Amory said. "Robert brings knowledge and skill to the role. He has shown excitement to assist in any way he can and is passionate about helping our program reach new heights.
Â
"Logan is a natural leader and has earned the respect and trust of the players and staff throughout his time at Loyola. He is organized, efficient, and brings enthusiasm to everything he does. I'm excited to have Logan back and to welcome Robert to the Pack."
Â
Burns joins the Wolf Pack with experience at both the amateur and collegiate levels. The Loyola Marymount University graduate, Burns competed in many NCAA events, earning multiple top-five finishes. A two-year captain at LMU, Burns was named West Coach Conference All-League in 1987-89. While competing, Burns won three tournaments, including the University of San Diego Championship and the University of Nevada, Reno Invitational.Â
Â
Competing at the amateur level, Burns qualified for the USGA MidAm at Genoa Lakes as the low amateur. He was also named a California State Amateur Qualifier for three years.
Â
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to work with two talented teams and individuals who are dedicated to Loyola and developing as individual players. It's the Jesuit way," Burns said. "Having been fortunate to compete and graduate from Loyola Marymount University, I understand the mental and physical approach to golf at this level."Â
Â
After competing for the Wolf Pack as a student-athlete for five years, Peterson returns to Loyola as a member of the coaching staff. From 2019 to 2024, Peterson competed in 32 tournaments for the Wolf Pack, recording multiple top-five and top-ten finishes during his career. He won multiple Southern States Athletic Conference awards, receiving three All-Academic honors and two Scholar-Athlete awards along with being named to the All-Freshman Team. As a senior, Peterson was named to the SSAC Champions of Character Team.
Â
"By playing for five years on the Loyola golf team I know firsthand how much of an impact I can have on these guys," Peterson said. "Transitioning into a coaching role and continuing to be a part of a program that has meant so much to me means the world. I am excited to work with each player and help bring out their greatest potential. The Wolf Pack holds a special place in my heart so I am thrilled for the opportunity to cultivate more memories and continue to be a part of the team."
Â
After graduating from Loyola in 2023 with a degree in business, Peterson has worked at the New Orleans Country Club as a Golf Services Specialist.
