Both Zach Wrightsil and Myles Burns were named to an All-America team for the fourth straight season, and first-year Wolf Pack player Brandon Davis earned a spot as well
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released its annual All-America Teams, and the National Champions Loyola Wolf Pack has three who earned a spot on the one of the four teams. Seniors Zach Wrightsil and and Myles Burns received the recognition for the fourth consecutive year, while sophomore transfer Brandon Davis was also named on the list.
For the first time in his career, Wrightsil got a spot on the First Team All-America list and Burns was put on the Second Team after earning Honorable Mention the three previous years at Loyola. In his first season at the NAIA level, Davis was named to the Honorable Mention All-America Team.
After completing their run through the NAIA National Championship tournament, Burns was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, Wrightsil was named the NAIA National Player of the Year and head coach Stacy Hollowell was tabbed NAIA National Coach of the Year after earning the SSAC Coach of the Year title.
The trio of Wolf Pack players and coach Hollowell led the team to a 37-1 overall record, Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and the school's first National Championship since the 1944-45 season. The three players are also the three leading scorers for the Pack, while Burns and Wrightsil leads the way in rebounds and Davis for assists.
Wrightsil has averaged 18.7 points and 8.8 rebounds this season, collecting 11 doubles in 38 games played. He also averaged 3.6 assists and two steals per outing to contribute to his all-around game. The Prosper, Texas, native was also named the SSAC Player of the Year on top of his National Player of the Year honor, and he was picked as the conference's Player of the Week a league-high six times this season.
Wrightsil broke the Loyola single-season records for both points (709) and rebounds (334), as well ending his career with the program's all-time program records for points (2,104), rebounds (1,065) and assists (480). He led the SSAC in both points per game and field goal percentage (62.2%), and he ranks second in steals per game (2.2), while rankings third in nationally in total offensive rebounds (126), fifth in total steals (80) and eighth in total points.
Burns was third on the team with 14.5 points per game while averaging a team-high 8.9 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game. He also contributed with 3.6 assists and 0.7 blocks per game. The Houston, Texas, native was named the SSAC Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth straight season, too, as he led the NAIA with an SSAC- and Loyola-record 152 total seasons. The Houston, Texas, native also won the SSAC Championship tournament MVP title, and he ranked first the conference in steals and rebounds this season. Nationally, he's first in both offensive rebounds (151) and steals as well.
Burns ended his career with a program-record 358 career steals, the second-most rebounds (1,073) and points (1,856), the fourth-most blocks (116) and the seventh-most assists (295).
Davis arrived at Loyola prior to this season from Delgado Community College, and he immedinatly made an impact at the point guard position. He earned a spot on the SSAC All-Conference First Team while also receiving the SSAC Newcomer of the Year award with one SSAC Player of the Week honor. Davis was second on the team with 15.9 points per game, a team-high 4.3 assists per game, and he also added 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.
The LaPlace, Louisiana native program the school record with 159 total assists this season, and he finished the year with the fifth-most steals (77), sixth-most 3-pointers made (84) and the 13th-most points (544) by a Wolf Pack player. Nationally, Davis was eighth in total steals and 14th in total assists.
