KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its men's basketball All-America teams on Monday, and Loyola Wolf Pack junior guard Kameron Johnson was placed on the Second Team.Â
Â
Johnson becomes the fifth student-athlete in program history to earn a spot on the first or second team, and the sixth to earn a position on the third team or better. The Wolf Pack men's basketball program has had 13 players honored by the NAIA All-America committee, including honorable mentions, in its history. Â
Â
The New Orleans native was also awarded the SSAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year award, becoming the second Loyola player ever to receive that honor.Â
Â
Johnson led the Wolf Pack to a 22-8 overall record this season, which was a 10-win improvement from his sophomore season, and a spot back in the national tournament field after a season away. He had a team-high 18.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, while adding 4.5 rebounds per game. He made 52 3-pointers this season at a 39.4 clip, which was also the best percentage on the team.Â
Â
The junior earned SSAC Player of the Week honors three times throughout the season, including a 33-point, 12-assist, 8-rebound performance during a four-overtime win against Xavier in The Den on Nov. 4. He logged 59 minutes that game, too, and was also named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week after receiving the conference honor this week.Â
Â
He also set the single-season Loyola record for assists in a season with 185, a number that ranked second in the NAIA by the season's end, and brought his career assist total up to 381, which ranks fourth in Loyola history. His 535 points this season also rank as the 15th-most in a season in program history.
