Wolf Pack play two close matches on Day 2 of ITA Cup

Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez came back to win their match in a third-set super tiebreak, while Micaela Ponce and Ariana Salgueiro-Estela were narrowly defeated

ROME, Ga. – Play continued at the ITA Cup Friday afternoon for the Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team, with both Friday matches for the Pack ending in a super tiebreak. 
 

After falling in Thursday's opening round match, Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez were able to bounce back on Day 2, facing Valentina Urelli and Andrea Vlasceanu from Menlo College. Loyola's team dropped the opening set, but came back to win the next two, running away with the super tiebreaker in the third set. 
 

Carpenter and Vasquez won their match 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. They will move on to play Teodora Jovic and Nicole Viljoen from Union College (Ky.) on Saturday. 
 

On the other side of the bracket, Micaela Ponce and Ariana Salgueiro-Estela also played a close match against a team from Indiana Wesleyan, narrowly dropping the third set. Taking the first set 7-6 (7-4), the Wolf Pack duo lost the second set 6-3 as the match went to a third set super tiebreak. 
 

In the end, Indiana Wesleyan's team defeated Ponce and Salgueiro-Estela 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-8. Next up, they'll play Marta Calvo Larraz and Hanna Lindeboom from William Woods University.
