Box Score No. 23 Loyola got back in the win column Sunday, defeating LSU Alexandria 109-65 for its seventh win of the season
NEW ORLEANS – The 23rd-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack women's basketball team got back to their winning ways Sunday afternoon in Devlin Fieldhouse, defeating LSU Alexandria soundly, 109-65.
Loyola (7-3, 2-1 in SSAC) started the game with a 27-point first quarter to immediately apply pressure to LSU Alexandria. Made shots by Kennedy Hansberry and Tay Cannon, and a 3-pointer by Sydni Tangle, quickly put the Pack ahead 7-3, then another score by Tangle made it a 14-8 game through the first six minutes. Loyola used a 13-0 run from there to grab control of the contest, as Liz Critton got on the board for the Wolf Pack and two 3s by Kate Petrovic pushed the Loyola advantage to 16, 27-11, in the final minutes.
Jazmene McMillan got a 3-point to fall early in the second quarter to keep the foot on the pedal for the Wolf Pack, and Critton scored eight of her 10 points over the next couple of minutes to help extend the score to 49-20. McMillan had another 3 during that stretch, too, and Cannon and Hansberry each had four. A 3-pointer by Hansberry with less than three minutes until halftime made it a 28-point lead, 52-24, and made shots by Jada Farrell and Tangle sent the two teams into the locker room with a 59-25 halftime score.
The Wolf Pack kept the momentum in the second half, quickly pushing their lead to 42, 67-25, after a 3-pointer from McMillan. The sophomore then scored back-to-back buckets to keep it a 40-plus advantage for the Wolf Pack, 73-29, halfway through the third quarter. Farrell and Hansberry each made consecutive shots a couple of minutes later, giving the Wolf Pack a 50-point lead, 83-33, with 90 seconds left in the frame.
Leading 87-37 entering the fourth, the Wolf Pack cruised to their seventh win of the season.
Pack Facts
Loyola's 109 total points were the most for the team since scoring 116 against Southeastern Baptist on Nov. 21, 2021.
Sydni Tangle had another season-best performance Sunday, dishing a season-high 13 assists and scoring a season-high 20 points to go along with her five rebounds and four steals.
Kennedy Hansberry was one rebound away from her first career triple-double, scoring 20 points, totaling 11 assists while pulling down the nine boards. The 20 points were a career-high for the senior and it was also a season-high for assists and rebounds.
Jazmene McMillan also notched a new season-high for points, scoring 23 Sunday, which is one away from her career-best.
Liz Critton also earned a new season-high with 10 points against the Generals. She also added six rebounds.
Tay Cannon made it five in double figures, too, scoring 14 points while recording five steals, four rebounds and three assists.
The Wolf Pack recorded 19 steals as a team, which is the most since having 24 on Dec. 7, 2016, against Selma University.
The team's 52.4 percent from the 3-point line was a season-best.
